TUGEND: Occult Transmission Release year: 2002 Format: CD Tracklist: I: Black Sun Rising Total length: 41:27 min General facts: This is the project of J. Brandenburg and Occult Transmission is his second album, released in 100 copies and now sold out. Besides Tugend, Mr Brandenburg is the man behind the website Bloodflag which deals with fascistic and traditionalistic subjects. It appears like a re-release of this album along with a remixed version of Survival Unit's Running on Emptiness will appear soon in the future. Review: Tugends debut didn't affect me very much with its very traditional brand of Dark Ambient and Industrial. Already the title suggest the word "cliché" in a most uninspiring fashion. As for the music - which is of course what really counts - Tugend has not really strayed much from the musical path described on Optimism is for the weak. It is still this utterly computerised Dark Ambient/Noise music, far too often echoing sounds and ideas from albums, already to be found on the market. There are some nice tracks, but in general this album brings nothing new to a genre that has proved very resourceful. Thus, this release only generate stasis, falling away from my field of interest pretty fast. As for some of the music, Black Sun Rising is a solemn peace based on distant rumbling over a yearning drone. Ironically, the track The Calm presents soundscapes of a more unpleasant and dissonant nature, yet it isn't exactly shocking or revolutionary in any way. Followed by Unhallowed Duty, the album takes on a anonymous approach with a crude melody playing over a computerised backdrop. Tugend works with samplings in the fifth track, creating a collage of atmospheres, derived from traditional war paradigms, fire-crackers and Industrial drums. The other tracks pretty much follow in the same direction, not really introducing anything new. In conclusion, this album is situated somewhere just around average on my scale. I'm not as chagrined by Occult Transmission as I was with Tugend's debut album. Yet I can't honestly say that this is in any way something special. In many ways, this is yet another inferior Lustmord pastiche to add to the list. Check it out if you are into conventional Dark Ambient without any surprises whatsoever. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Click here to enter Tugend's website - Click here to contact Tugend |
