MOLJEBKA PVLSE: Sadalmelik Release year: 2002 Format: CD Tracklist: 1: Sadalmelik 73:00 Total Length: 73 min General Facts: This is a project maintained by a Swedish guy named Mathias Jofefson. In Mathias own words: "Moljebka pvlse is an experimental music group based in stockholm, sweden. the group works with both electronic and acustic instruments making hypnotic meditative music." This description pretty much sums it up. Moljebka Pvlse have released a CD on Eibon and a live CD-R before Sadalmelik saw daylight. They have also appeared on the Estethicks of Cruelty and Living in a World full of Drones compilations. The project is also involved in composing soundtracks. Sadalmelik is thier first release on Cold Meat Industry and it is limited to 1000 copies. Review: This is the first album I heard by Moljekba Pvlse and I was a bit surprised to find this released on Cold Meat Industry. This is more something I would expect to hear released on a label such as Drone Records as most CMI bands tend to be more 'up-front' instead of minimalistic Noise manipulators. I'm not disapointed to find Moljebka Pvlse in Karmanik's roster though, not at all. It is very refreshing to hear this kind of music when it is skillfully performed. How does it sound then? Well, it is a rather monotonoues journey in Dark Ambient/Noise music that we are speaking of here. It feels like the album is really a 70 minutes long flow of soughing and droning sounds that periodically grow stronger and while often remaining vague. The are no abrupt changes, nor are there percussion, vocals or melodies. The music seems to move in different, homogenoues layers that gradually merge with each other in such a fashion that you hardly notice it. If such music bores you, you should probably stop reading here. I guess it is not really the kind of music to listen at any time but instead at chosen occasions. I have experienced the best effects while listening to this while being tired and alone. The thing with this type of music is that it leaves a lot of space for the mind to visualise and let the imagination run loose. The entrancing nature of this music gently soothes the mind and bestows a meditative state on the listener. Nothing beats the state one enters when one is totally submerged into a mesmerising musical piece (well, making love to a beautiful woman of course beats it.). Often this emotion is disrupted by some contrasful sound or something but with Sadalmelik, the music is so homogenous that one could be stuck for hours within the music if it wasn't for the limited length of the CD. I imagine people who utilize aural meditation would probable enjoy this CD, as would people who are experiencing sleeping problems (If you have an interest in this type of music of course). Sadalmelik is a skillfully performed piece that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to fans of minimalistic Noise and Dark Ambient music. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Click here to contact Moljebka Pvlse - Click here to enter the Moljebka Pvlse website |
