Hypostatic Ground is a limited edition release consisting of 250 black vinyls with hand-scratched black covers. Each copy has a unique photo. In the best Drone records tradition, this release may very well become reprinted once the first 250 copies have sold out but expect a less exclusive second edition. Review: Hypostatic Ground is composed of some very thick, infrequent noises of a harsh and mordant nature. The EP starts of with a turmoil of sounds identified as Grund auf der Tage. Some very dry, harsh noises and drones are being generated in a most chaotic fashion. Eventually, it seems as if the chaos of sounds is being organised and directed into different channels with the track becoming more and more rhythmic. It is sort of like a slight "Order from Chaos" notion, yet calling the music of MNEM orderly would be quite inappropriate since Hypostatic Ground is still closer to the school of chaos than that of order. The music is mostly moving within the lower frequencies and obtuse high frequency outburst are totally lacking as far as I can hear. The second track sounds like it is som ekind of infrequent low rumbling recorded under water. I can't really identify what the sounds resemble but Erdreich unter Tage isn't at all as harsh as its counterpart. It's lower and a bit hollower in sound. The low drones that constitute most of this track are sometimes joined by some sharper, slightly reverbed sounds and a low sweeping but the very essence of the track is still quite a claustrophic underwater feel generated by the rumblings. It sort of makes me think of drowning.
