LAND: Opuscule Release year: 2002 Format: CD Tracklist: 1: Néo-noir 07:00 Total Length: 48:53 min General Facts: Land is a project from France which began its days in 1988. A number of tapes have been releases in small quantities. Then a 10" names Idi i Smotri was released in 2001 and Opuscule followed a year later. Idi i Smotri was only printed in 40 copies and is sold out. Review: This album consists of Neo-Classical tinged Industrial music with an emphasis on desolate and melancholic soundtextures. Land's music consists of serene string arrangments, hard percussion, historical samples and solemn piano-play etc. Along with this, a backdrop of Dark Ambient elements serve the purpose of taking the tunes to further atmospherical levels. It is in other words quite a traditional ensemble involved in this CD. At times, I find myself associating a lot of aspects of Opuscule with other projects in this genre. This is very emotional music, sometimes reminiscent of project like Les Joyaux De La Princesses or Regard Extreme. Other tracks - for example parts of Néo-noir - reminds me of the older raison d'être material. Is some ways, this is a shame since it may suggest that this is an unoriginal album, yet I must admit that I found listening to it to be very enjoyable. It is skillfully performed at it has several interesting ideas. Some of the tracks are more unique than the others and I think it is in tracks like Pilon, Neo-noír or Décembre Incertain where Land show their strongest side. Some more originality would place this release higher on my scales, yet this release is definitely above average. Land has is skilled in infusing emotions into their music, the result is that there music is often very seductive. I hope we will get to see more of this skill on future Land releases. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Click here to enter the Land website - Click here to contact Land |
