INSTITUT: Live Like Traitors, Die Like Traitors Release year: 2003 Format: CD Tracklist: I: Patiently waiting Total Length: 40:30 min General facts: Institut is as far as I know Lirim Cajani. He was once accompanied by Johanna Rosenquist but she left the project in 2002. I believe this is their second full-length, released on CMI but the project has also released a number of vinyls and appeared on various compilations in the past. Johanna was still a member of Institut when this album was recorded. Review: I have never been a big fan of Institut except for their adrenalizing live-shows. I enjoyed some of their older stuff on CD but I think they are starting to sound more and more like an ordinary Power Electronics act. Yet there are tracks of unquestionable quality that really makes my day, one example being Dear Sire or Madame with its neat blend between Johanna's disturbed vocals and the psychadaelic electronic oscillations. As for the music in a general view, it belongs to the obtuse realm of Swedish Power Electronics. The liquid-metallic voice of Lirim and the Johanna's frenzied screams stay in the backdrop of the soundpicture, both shouting out pure aggression over the textures of blistering electronical noise. Institut's music reaches very violent proportions at times, yet often it is too monotonous to match my taste, failing to surprise or move me in any noteable way. Generally, this album tend to bore me a bit but it has it moments and in conclusion, I guess I would call this an average album. Yet I'm not really a big fan of this particular form of music. But if you are, you might just disagree with me.
