GALE GRAND CENTRAL: Garlands Release year: 2002 Format: CD Tracklist: 1: Godchild 06:07 Total Playingtime: 48:48 min General Facts: Gale Grand Central is the project of Per Svensen and the project is experiencing its one-year anniversity near the time of the release of this issue. Garlands is Gale Grand Central's debut album and it's marketed as "Harsh melodic industrial with dirty rhythms and some techno massive beats" by Fluttering Dragon. Per Svensen is at the moment working on a project with No Festival Of Light. Review: It's very nice when you receive a CD that you have absolutely no picture of at all and after having heard it one time, you're left with the picture of yourself pressing the play and the repeat buttons in order to hear it again. I think Garlands is an excellent debut-album in several different ways. It's professional, it's interesting and last but not least, it's a very nice listen. The music of Gale Grand Central is somekind of bleak, instrumental industrial music with a lot of emphasis on melodies and rhythmns. The atmosphere is often quite cold and depressive in a sense that can only be established through means of electricity. Yet there are also tracks that are more up-tempo but the point of contact is definitely a certain harshness in the sound. The tracks are very well-structured and the sound is quite up-in-the-front and demarcated into different channels. Thus, this music is quite easy to listen to. I also feel that many of the tracks also are quite synchronized, the track Never Again is a perfect example of this with it's relaxed rhythm, sort of like a machine. Yet Svensen has succeded in varying his tracks pretty well. All tracks carry with them an unique theme eventhough there's still a red line in the shape of a certain degree of originality which binds all these tracks into a whole. I don't know what more to say about Garlands really. I hearthily recommend this release since I think it's one of the best electronic releases reviewed in this issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIVE QUESTIONS: ECTONAUT: Please introduce Gale Grand Central to our readers. What is Gale Grand Central all about? For how long have you been doing this and for what reason? PER: Gale Grand Central started in spring 2001. I was coming nowhere with my earlier projects and was searching for a new sound. I wanted to get a sound that would be dark, harsh and hard, but in the same time I didn't want to loose the harmony in the songs. Out came a mix from different influences like techno, industry, electronica and ambient. ECTONAUT: What plans do you have for the future? Are there any new Gale Grand Central releases planned? Anything else you would like to add? PER: I'm planning a project with No Festival Of Light, nothing is ready yet but we are working on something together. With Gale Grand Central I will continue develop the sound, not sure yet which way it will go, guess time will tell. - Click here to contact Gale Grand Central |
