DIARY OF DREAMS: Freak Perfume Release year: 2002 Format: CD Tracklist: 1: Traum:A 06:08 Total Length: 64:37 min General Facts: Diary of Dreams was started by Adrian Hates in the late 80's. Yet, no debut album appeared until 1994 in the form of Cholymelan and since then, six albums have been released - Freak Perfume being the latest. Review: The sound of Diary of Dreams I reckon have become pretty well known in the Goth-Darkwave scenes by now. I can say as much that Diary of Dreams probably won't surprise anyone with this album. It is the same sorrowful formula of Darkwave music centred around Hates deep vocals as presented on One of 18 Angels, it's predecessor from 2000. The first track is absolutely great. A mournful piano-melody gently opens this album. Accompanied by the well-determined drums, guitars and Adrian's melancholic vocals, it creates a very fatal atmosphere, yet not lacking any power whatsoever. I don't really know what to say about the rest of the tracks. Some tracks are good but in general, it sounds as if I had heard this before. Freak Perfume is pretty much akin to that of One of 18 Angels though I prefer the latter mentioned. The fact that there are too many ballads on this CD for my taste may be one of the reasons to this but I also think Mr. Hates is repeating himself a lot, re-using ideas from his previous albums. To hear a Diary of Dreams track ever now and then is quite nice but a whole album of this kind of bores me since it is very repetitive. Though I have to admit; I enjoy listening to his album while driving around in my car every now and then. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Click here to enter the official Diary of Dreams website - Click here to contact Diary of Dreams |
