General Facts:

Crawl Unit is a project from Sacramento that has released a couple of vinyls, CD's and tapes to this day. Tucson Mon Amour was recorded live at Big Storage, Tucson, Arizona in October 1996. It was first released on white vinyl with handmade covers in a limited edition of 250 copies in January 1998. A second edition on green vinyl with printed covers limited to 300 copies was later released in December 2000.

Review:

Tucson Mon Amour consists of ambient Noise music, mainly built around ringing, high frequent metal sounds, random harsh noise-outburst and background drones. The music is quite tense at times, yet not in the typical stressed electronic fashion. It feels more held-back and it has quite an acoustic experimental approach. Apparentely J.Colley, the guy behind Crawl Unit gathered many of the 'instruments' used on Tucson Mon Amour at the recording place itself (which was actually located next to a sewage treatment plant). It's certainly an interesting ensemble of homogeneous sounds gathered here and along with a nice mastering, Tucson Mon Amour becomes a nice little journey.

Do not expect any 'ordinary' song-structures on this 7" though. It completely lacks clear percussion, vocals or melodies and the emphasis lies totally on the various sounds and how they interact with each other rather than common melodies and rhythms. In other words: Only for fans of experimental Noise music.
