CRANIOCLAST: (The) L.K.A. Sonar Kit
1st edition Release year: 2000 Format: 7" EP Tracklist:
2nd edition Total Length: 15:00 min General Facts: Cranioclast comes from West-Germany. They were mostly active during the 80's but have nearly disappeared during the last years. (The) L.K.A. Sonar Kit presents two tracks on a beautiful picture disc. It was first released in July 2000 on a black & white picture disc limited to 250 copies. Each one had a different coloured cover in transparent paper as well as a numbered sticker with it. A second edition was released in December 2000, once again on a black & white cover but with a new cover, printed on transparent non-rigid plastic sleeves. This edition is limited to 400 copies. Review: This now legendary German band presents a release consisting of a very relaxing flow of euphonious sounds. The musical approach of both these tracks is very natural and acoustic. De Zeester is composed of sleepy sitar melodies, some drones, calm samples and a drifting rhythm. It is a very meditative track where the ensemble of sound is quite unorthodox, yet the atmosphere itself is incredibly refreshing and very pleasant. The Anemone starts with a piano playing a really beautiful, solemn tune in front of a sweeping bass sound, drones and various samples of humans and animals etc. The serene flow of sound is later submerged into a tunnel of weird, yet sonorous samples and melodies, adding a very alien touch to the track before it ends. All in all, (The) L.K.A. Sonar Kit is a very emotional and artistic release. I don't know how I am going to label this though since it is quite different. I guess one could say it is some kind of experimental ambient with a lot of emphasis on melodies and diverse samples. It is nice to hear something of these proportions in originality every now and then. This ought to be checked out. |
