ATARAXIA: Mon Seul Desir Release date: 2002-02-18 Format: CD Tracklist: 1: Alsicon 06:21 Total playingtime: 42.34 min General Facts: I believe Mon Seul Desir is the 10th album by this Italian band but I have already lost count so I will not bet my finger on it. I am pretty sure that it is their fourth release through CMI though, that it is centered around the theme of love, and that it is copy-protected. Review: Mon Seul Desir starts up with quite a dreamy tune consisting of classical guitars, ethereal keyboards and of course Francesca Nicoli's characteristic and strange way of singing. I might as well point out that those who have had problems with her voice before will probably have it once again, since she sings in practically the same way as before. Her style has evolved a lot throughout the years though and she is definitely skilled in what she is doing, though in a strange kind of way. I am not sure I am very found of this album. It is just too nice and lovely for my taste, but then of course, what could one really expect from an album which deals with the theme of love? The music is sugar-sweet at times and like a bag of caramels, the first caramel might taste nice but after you have had a few, they all start to taste bitterl and your mind forces you to reject the sugary substances and look for something more refreshing. I experience the same feeling when I listen to Mon Seul Desir, it grows boring quickly. Even though Mr. Vittorio is definitely one of the most skilled classic guitar players that I have heard in this genre, sometimes his guitar playing just becomes too much. Like on the 4th track Sendero En Lago Verde for example. Like I said, it's just too damn nice for me. Since I haven't heard very much of Suenos I won't make any comparisons with this album but I think Lost Atlantis was a much better album than Mon Seul Desir in every aspect. I think the highlight of Mon Seul Desir are the two traditional songs, one of them deriving from medieval Turkey. Ataraxia has really managed to create an authentic feeling in these in these tracks even though the sound quality is very polished and clear. - Click here to visit the Ataraxia homepage - Click here to contact Ataraxia |
